We often receive questions about advice on tipping in Mexico, so we have prepared this basic guide on what we have found customary.
Suggested Tips in US Dollars (see current conversion rate below)
Restaurants: $1-3 per meal per table, typically 15% depending on service. However, waiters are paid very little and depend on the tips so we suggest a minimum of 10%.
Bartender: $1 per round of drinks
Bellmen: $1-3 per bag
Housekeeper: $1-5 a day, more for longer stays. If you have special minibar requests tip extra. If there is an envelope, the will likely expect tips. If not, be sure to leave money in an obvious spot with a note saying "Gracias" (Thank You) so they know they can take it. It is recommended to either tip daily or at the beginning of your stay for the best service.
Pool Boys: $5 if they save you prime chairs by the pool
Concierge: $5 if they get you into a fully booked specialty restaurant
Shuttle Bus: $2.50-$5/person
Spa: 10-20% depending on the service, be sure to check to see if gratuity is automatically added.
Tour Guides: $5-$10/person for a full day tour, depending on guide knowledge, service and experience.
Drivers: $1-$3/person
